Be inspired by Dennis Gould

In the lead up to Issue VI’s submission deadline, our Editor is sharing six poems which she believes speak to the themes of courage and the symbolic serpent, as well as being linked to Li Ji’s heroism. In preparing your submission (whether it be poetry, prose, photography or art), feel free to be inspired by these pieces.

20th century fairy tale by Dennis Gould

Visual poetry from the National Poetry Archives

The text in the image reads:

Adam & Eve came in naked

And leave us naked too

But you would think the Bourgeois

Were completely different from You

Too many creature comforts

Too many cushioned behinds

Overdressed. Overfed. Overpaid. Overall…

Needing their professional kind

I mean, every working has the following

There is no difference now:

Every worker has the following.

an Architect: Banker, Accountant:

Barrister: “Purveyor of Oaths”…

Every worker has a Town House

Weekend Cottage too: Land and

Various Properties: numerous opportunities

For Travel, well, at least once

A Year: Every worker has a Private

Doctor: Dentist: Sigh-Ki-A-Triste:

Adam & Eve came in naked

And leave us naked too

But you would think the Bourgeois

Were completely different from You

Too many creature comforts

Too many cushioned behinds

Overdressed. Overfed. Overpaid. Over All.
